Boston In Transit - The Book
Figure 1.13 - The West Boston Bridge, Circa Mid-1800s
The West Boston Bridge is jammed with foot traffic and horse-drawn vehicles. A toll house is shown at the far right. Approximately mid-way across the river is an operable draw, marked by tall structures. The draw opened to allow vessels to pass along the Charles River. The West Boston Bridge was in use from 1793 until 1906.
