Boston In Transit - The Book
Figure 1.41 - Trains Crossing Boston’s Back Bay, 1835

A Boston & Providence passenger train (foreground) travels across the “dizzy bridge” towards Boston, crowned by the dome of the Massachusetts State House (top center). A Boston & Worcester train (far left) heads away from the city. This view was engraved and published by John Barber one year after the Boston & Providence brought the first passenger train service to Boston.
