Each of the first batch of official MBTA colors was specified by its own master sheet within the Manual of Guidelines and Standards. Green was for trolley lines. A Red, Blue, and Orange were assigned to a corresponding rapid transit line. A yellow-orange was for service vehicles and highlighting doors on revenue vehicles. One of two different shades of gray were intended for most revenue vehicles but did not see widespread or long term application.
