Boston in Transit - The Book
Figure 4.34 -  Main Entrance of Union Station, Circa 1895

To the left of the grand arch, portals lead to the carriage stand. To the right, a portion of the facade conceals the main waiting room. Above the main entrance, words carved into the arch’s frieze read “Boston & Maine,” “Union Station,” and “Fitchburg.” By the time Union Station opened, the Fitchburg was entirely controlled by the Boston & Maine.
